Dealing with Depression from a Consciousness-Based Approach - Dealing with depression is like handling passing clouds in the sky of our mind. When we say we are feeling depressed, it's just a passing thought, not our entire being. It's like when we have a thought of not wanting to feel sad or wanting to enjoy life. The trouble arises only when we completely attach ourselves to the thought of being depressed.
Here's a simple way to handle these thoughts and feelings: observe them, like watching clouds drift by. If we become skilled at observing these depressive thoughts and feelings, we realize that our whole being is not consumed by them. It's like looking at the world around us; we know that we are more than just the words we see. We become the watcher, separate from the objects we watch.
In this awareness, we find the freedom of consciousness and open ourselves up to the warm embrace of healing. Remember, just as the clouds pass, these thoughts and feelings will too. We are much more than they are, and with time and observation, they will dissolve, leaving us with a sense of clarity and peace.
